ABOUT ZTP

The Zambia Tax Platform (ZTP) is a multi-stakeholder group that aims to promote new and sustained advocacy on tax, tax governance and administration, fiscal policy and governance issues in Zambia in a simplified manner. This is based on the premise that genuine interest in tax and fiscal governance exists and there has been a need to have a space that facilitates well informed debate and discussion and at the same time broadens the understanding of tax and fiscal issues.  ZTP is inclusive of a wide variety voices with links to national, regional and international research and civil society networks.

Overall Goal

To promote new and sustained advocacy around tax, tax governance and administration, fiscal policy and governance issues in Zambia in a simplified manner informed by research and inclusive of a wide variety of voices with links to national, regional and international research and civil society networks.

Specific Objectives 

 

1. To support interaction and information exchange among civil society, key government ministries and agencies, research organisations, professional associations and the   media with an interest in tax, tax governance and administration, fiscal policy and governance issues.

2. To break down tax, tax governance and administration, fiscal policy and governance as a body of knowledge, in simple concepts, so as to allow for effective and constructive contributions from all stakeholders.

3. To provide spaces and platforms for inclusive dialogue around key tax, tax governance and administration, fiscal policy and governance issues in Zambia.

4. To strengthen the capacity of the media to report on tax, tax governance and administration, fiscal policy and governance issues so as to increase the quality, prominence and frequency of media reporting on the aforementioned issues.

5. To provide a platform for coordinating Tax Justice campaigns in Zambia and ensuring alignment with similar work in other regions in Africa and the rest of the world.

6. To create links to national, regional and international research and civil society networks working around tax, tax governance and administration, fiscal policy and governance issues.

7. To conduct research around prevailing tax, tax governance and administration, fiscal policy and governance issues.

Area of Focus

 

1. Accountability: Holding governments to account for tax, tax governance and administration; fiscal policy and governance so as to ensure just and equitable systems.

 

2. Citizen Awareness and Participation: Strengthening Citizens’ tax and fiscal awareness, education and participation in tax justice campaigns

3. Tax and Fiscal Policy Analysis; Conduct Policy Reviews; Comparative analysis of tax policies and domestic revenue mobilisation with other countries; Studies on taxation and its implications on other policy implementations e.g. the Decentralisation Policy.
